As the name suggests, the Kalapathar beach has some unusual landscape with dead corals deposited on the black rocks. The low tides do expose the distinctive terrain. During tides, the aqua green water is pulled inside showcasing an amazing deep blue curve on the horizon. This beach is the perfect choice for photography lovers and honeymooners.

Kalapathar beach in Havelock

Kalapathar beach is situated on one corner of Havelock Island. The beach gets its name from the surrounding village, which is Kalapathar Village, and the black rocks (known as Kalapathar in Hindi) that adorn the coastline here. The trees on the shore have artistic roots exposed due to soil erosion. The beach has rocks with sharp edges, which makes swimming a tough task here.

How to reach Kalapathar?

Kalapathar beach is situated at the end of Havelock Island. You can hire an autorickshaw or a cab to reach there. The road to the beach somewhat resembles the marine drive with a tropical touch.

Timings

The beach is open for tourists the whole day. Most tourists visit the beach for sunrise.

What to see at Kalapathar?

The emerald seas, the tropical forests on one side of the road, the kalapathar (black rocks) that decorate the coastline, the silken smooth silver sands, and the sheer solitude make this beach a great place to relax.

What to do?

You can swim here, but be cautious about the sharp rocks.

What to eat?

There are many shacks on the road selling coconut, fruit chat, and cold drinks. You may try the mango chat for a change.

What you should not miss.

Do not miss the sunrise view from this beach. You can hire a two-wheeler to reach the beach in the morning in case your driver is not available in the early morning.

What you can skip

You can skip going to this beach in the afternoon as it could be very hot.
