An hour drive from Port Blair to reach Wandoor and a 40 minutes boat ride takes you to the no-mans-land of Jolly Bouy Island. This is the most beautiful island in the marine national park. Away from the hustle of crowded cities, this island is sure to give a divine feel to the tourists. One can explore underwater marine life through snorkeling and glass-bottom boats here.
JOLLY BUOY AND RED SKIN ISLAND
Jolly Buoy and Red Skin Islands are part of Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. The trip to these Islands starts from Wandoor jetty which is around 30 km from Port Blair. Each of these islands is open for tourists for six months a year to allow the natural growth of corals and marine life. Jolly buoy island is preferred by more tourists compared to Red Skin. While you wait for your boat on the Wandoor jetty you may also visit the marine interpretation center situated at the jetty premises.
How to reach?
The ferries to Jolly buoy leave in the morning from Wandoor jetty. Wandoor is connected by road from Port Blair and is 30 km away. The road drive takes approximately an hour to reach Wandoor.
Timings to visit
The first boat to Jolly buoy leaves at 0800 Hrs. and the last boat leaves at around 1000 Hrs. A forest permit is issued one day in advance from the tourism office in Port Blair, tickets for boats can also be purchased from there. To protect marine life and restrict the footfall of tourists, only limited permits are issued per day.

Apart from Jolly Buoy tourists can also visit the nearby Wandoor beach.
What to do?
The main treasure in Jolly buoy is the sea bed. The reefs are full of diverse marine life. One must do either snorkeling or take a glass-bottom ride to explore the rich and colorful corals underwater.
What to eat?
The jolly buoy is a strict no-plastic zone. Any kind of food items packed in plastic is not permitted. There are no eateries on the island. Hence it is advised to finish your breakfast before you go there and do your lunch once you come back. Snacks packed in paper bags are permitted. Milton water bottles are available for rent at the counter for a refundable security deposit of Rs.500. Plastic water bottles are not allowed.
What you should not miss.
Do not miss the extra paid glass bottom trip that is conducted in Jolly buoy. The complimentary trip is too short and is just a trailer of the movie. It is recommended to take a long ride in the boat or do snorkeling to explore marine life.
