Havelock is situated around 42 km northeast of Port Blair. The island was named after British General Sir Henry Havelock. This island is the most sought-after tourist destination in Andaman. The administration has encouraged tourism on this island with the main focus on eco-tourism. The total population of around 8000 people is spread across six villages in Havelock.

Havelock is connected with Port Blair via the sea route. There are Government ferries and private cruises for Havelock from Port Blair. The government ferry is basically for the native islanders and the luxury cruises are for the tourists. Presently cruises that are operating for Havelock are Makruzz, Green Ocean, Nautika, Aashi, ITT Majestic, and Govt speed boats (can get govt ferries are as per availability).

It has an overall length of two kilometers and an average width of 30 to 40 meters. The sand is white and very fine in grain. The beach has a gentle gradient of around 1:20 and continues out into the sea as a sandy bottom for over 100 meters.
